But Gwangmyeong Cave is completely different. It’s not just a cave—it’s a magical space where light and art blend together. Honestly, I never expected to find such an artistic and emotional spot in the metropolitan area… 😂

Even though it was a cold winter weekend, I visited Gwangmyeong Cave with my baby!
It was my first time visiting a cave in winter, and while the entrance was a bit chilly, the inside was warm enough for a comfortable tour with my child. 😊

If you’re driving, you can park at the Gwangmyeong City Recycling Facility Parking Lot near Entrance 1!

I visited on a weekend afternoon, and there was plenty of parking available! Just park in the lot in front of the pink building, then walk up to Gwangmyeong Cave.
Baby Stroller – Needed from the Parking Lot to the Gwangmyeong Cave Entrance!
From the parking lot to the entrance of Gwangmyeong Cave, you’ll need to walk about 10 minutes uphill on a winding mountain path. Inside the cave, there are many stairs, which can be challenging for young children, so I recommend bringing a stroller for the way back down!
However, strollers are not allowed inside Gwangmyeong Cave, so you’ll need to leave them at the stroller storage area near the entrance and explore the cave on foot!

Gwangmyeong Cave Map & Tour Duration – Takes Over 1 Hour with a Baby!
From the Gwangmyeong Cave ticket office, walk another 20 meters up a steep slope to reach the entrance! 🏔️
On the right side of the entrance, there is a stroller storage area, where we left our stroller before showing our tickets and entering the cave. The official tour duration is listed as 40 minutes round-trip, but since we took our time exploring with a child, it took us over an hour! 😊
Gwangmyeong Cave Winter Indoor Temperature & Clothing Tips – The Cave is Warm, but the Entrance is Cold!
You enter the cave following the wind path! 🌬️
The indoor temperature of Gwangmyeong Cave stays between 12°C and 13°C year-round. However, since it’s winter, cold wind blows into the entrance, making it very chilly when going in and out! ❄️🥶 (I guess that’s why it’s called the wind path… haha 😆)
Still, our little one bravely held hands with a friend and stepped into the cave! ✨ Thanks to the abundant lighting, they weren’t scared at all! 😊
As you go deeper into the cave, the indoor temperature rises, making it warmer than outside. Plus, with all the stairs going up and down, you might start to feel a bit hot!
Still, in winter, it’s best to dress your baby warmly with a padded jacket, gloves, and a hat. If it gets too warm inside, you can simply remove a layer!
Gwangmyeong Cave Attractions
Wormhole Plaza / Space of Light
As soon as we entered Gwangmyeong Cave, the first thing we saw was the Space of Light, featuring illuminated flowers, butterflies, and other glowing displays! Our child absolutely loved the colorful and beautiful lights!
Cave Art Hall – Performances
At the Cave Art Hall, a media art show is projected onto the cave walls every 10 minutes, with each screening lasting about 4 minutes.
Before the show, a guide provides a brief introduction to Gwangmyeong Cave, so be sure to listen to the explanation and then enjoy the media art performance! 😊
Cave Aquarium
Although it’s not very large, the cave features a small aquarium with real fish and even robotic fish, which fascinated our child!
Golden Road / Golden Waterfall / Golden Palace
Gwangmyeong Cave is filled with gold-themed attractions symbolizing good fortune, including the Golden Waterfall, Golden Plaques, Golden Chamber, Golden Palace, and the Wishing Golden Tree!
Underground Cave Lake
If you go down quite a few stairs, you’ll reach the Underground Cave Lake!
Be careful when going down with a child, as the stairs are steep and there are quite a lot of them! 😅 Your little one might get tired halfway and ask to be carried—so dads, be prepared for a workout!
Modern History Exhibition Hall
The Modern History Exhibition Hall showcases records of gold, silver, and bronze mining in Gwangmyeong Cave, along with exhibits detailing its history from the Korean War to the present!
Gwangmyeong Cave Korea Wine Festival
Gwangmyeong Wine Cave – Wine Sales 🍷✨
At Gwangmyeong Wine Cave, you can purchase a variety of locally produced Korean wines made from regional specialties at an affordable price, ranging from ₩20,000 to ₩30,000!
Many visitors were buying wine, and it seems like a great gift option as well!

There was also a VR experience center outside the cave, where kids could enjoy interactive activities. However, since it had a minimum height requirement of 120 cm, we couldn’t try it out. 😢
